Operational History Overview. On 7 December, 1941 the ships of Subron 10A where in Pearl Harbor or the surrounding area. Immediately after the attack, plans were made to begin the first patrols of the War. In March of 1943 USS Tautog and COMSUBRON10 were sent to Brisbane, Australia to meet up with six S-boats from the Canal Zone along with the tender Griffin AS-13 to form Task Force 42. For the next fourteen months, through May of 1943, this group participated in the action around the Solomon Islands. At peak strength Task Force 42 operated ten boats in one two month cycle in the Solomons. In May of 1943 the commanders of Task Force 42 were split up and assigned to more modern boats. Some Commanders were assigned to other Subron's and the remainder transfered to new boats and the SUBRON reformed in Pearl Harbor. Subron 10 is currently operating out of Midway and on Patrol in the Marianna's area. |
