Kongo Revisited

This custom mission is an updated version of the "Death of the Kongo" encounter included with the game. The changes are based on the research  by A. P. "Tony" Tully on the subject of the Kongo's final sortie and information in the DANFS ship history about the encounter from the Sealion II perspective.

This scenario places the Sealion II at maximum radar range on the correct side of the Japanese task force at 00:20 on 21 November, 1944.  Tube 8 is not loaded as this tube was damaged and not operational.  The torpedo's are Mark 18-1 electric's per the Tully article.   All reloads are available both fore and aft.

The Japanese task force reflects the Tully article in make up.  Four Kagero class DD's escorting, two on each side.  The CL Yahagi (Agano class) leading the way followed by the Kongo, Nagato and Yamato.  The CL and BB's all start with some damage sustained.

From the Japanese perspective the Sealion II's radar has been detected and the force is now moving NE at 14 knots without a zig zag in an attempt to out run the submarine.  This speed and Moderate Seas were chosen to better match the worsening conditions encountered by both sides during the night.  Since Silent Hunter slows the Sealion II to 15 knots under these conditions the Task Force is set at 14 knots to give the actual slight advantage in speed that the Sealion II enjoyed.

Unfortunately, the sea's in Silent Hunter will not assist you in finishing off damaged ships.  Ship's that don't sink from the initial attack will need to be tracked down and finished off.

Good Luck and Good Hunting!
