The Aluetian Islands
Located between Alaska and Japan in the North Pacific. |
|
|
|
The Caroline Islands
Located in the middle of the Pacific. The Truk lagoon was one of the major Naval Bases used by the Japanese fleet. |

|
Formosa (Taiwan)
The Japanese China Coast shipping lane went between Formosa and the China mainland. |
|
|
|
|
IndoChina (Vietnam)
The Japanese shipping lane continued along the coast to the oil fields and supplies in the South Pacific. |

|
|
The Java Sea
During the early months of the war the Asiatic Fleet tried to stop the Japanese Invasion forces in this area while retreating to Australia. |
|
|
|
Malaysia (Indonesia)
After the Japanses captured the British Base at Singapore this became their Southern Base for Fleet operations. |
|
|
|
Palau
This island base was a staging area for Japanese operations in the Java and New Guinea area's. |
|
|
|
|
The Mariana's
The major island, Guam, was a China Clipper stop prior to the war. The island of Tinian featured the worlds largest air base and was home to the B-29's that bombed Japan and dropped the Atomic Bomb's in 1945. |

Northern Japan
This zone stretches from South of Tokyo Bay to the Northern end of the main island of Honshu. Submarines were active in this area throughout the war. |

|
The Phillipines
Home to the Asiatic Fleet at the start of the War. It was also the location for many of the major naval battles in 1944. |

|
The Yellow Sea.
The area between Korea and the Chinese mainland. The China Coast route moved across the extreme southern end of this patrol zone. |

|
Southern Japan
Starting from just South of Tokyo Bay which is not on the map. This zone covers the major routes to the South from Japan, the Inland Sea and the Southern end of the Sea of Japan to the Korean coast. |

The South China Sea
Covers the China coast route around Hong Kong. This is the area between Indochina and Formosa. |
|
|
|
The Solomons
In late 1942 and early 1943 this was the area where the U.S. and Japanese fleets had their major battles. Control of the island of Guadalcanal and the air base at Henderson field were the focal point of the campaign. |

|
|
The Sulu Sea
Covering the area along Borneo's Northern coast and the southern entrance into the Phillipines. The Japanese used Brunei Bay as a fleet anchorage until the battles in the Phillipines in October 1944. |
